Romans 1:20-21

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

The dark history of the moral character of the world is described in Romans chapter 1. But humans can know God, in and through His creation; His eternal power and Godhead are clearly seen in the things that made. "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard" (Psalm 19:1-3). Thus Gentiles are without excuse. Firstly God has made Himself known to them by His Creation. Secondly, all people should glorify Him rather than using their imaginations to conjure up ideas and doctrines which are false and foolish (Romans 1:21, 22). Humans were created with a natural conscience that knows that God judges these things. Nevertheless, humans everywhere did so, rejecting the truth, and furthermore taking pleasure in it and thus became 'futile'; and therefore God has judged and death (Romans 6:23) awaits those who do not have faith in God (John 14:6).
