1 Peter 1:18,19

Forasmuch as you know that you were ransomed [redeemed] from the futile ways [aimless conduct] inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

Two things: Firstly, our ransom from sin is fully assured - it was not merely paid for with money (silver or gold), but rather the very precious blood of Jesus Christ. This fufills all God requires and nothing more is required. Our ransom (or redemption) is provided by the grace of God. We need only accept the gift of salvation - nothing more is needed. But once saved Christians must move on to maturity, to become useful workers for the Lord.

Secondly the passage makes the point that salvation is from some to something else; it is from "aimless conduct" or futile ways which are the ways of the wicked. There is nothing they can do that is useful or pleasing to God. As Paul puts it to the Ephesian church - our purpose is now the work of God, indeed, we are to do the work we were created to do, which before salvation we could not possibly do: we are "created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)
