Peace, spoken of here, is of this world; no one can achieve peace through interaction with this world for the world cannot give peace – only tribulation; it is ruled by the Evil one. One cannot find spiritual peace from performing good, or religious duties, or ordinances. Peace might be enjoyed in these, but is not achieved through these; it comes only through Jesus Christ who is the whole gospel by his grace.
There is a peace by Christ Jesus, which he has made by shedding his blood on the cross and dying in our place. There is peace in him, which can only be enjoyed through faith (Rom 5:1) which imputes forgiveness of our sin through his sacrifice (Rom 4:22-25); by looking to his righteousness for justification, to his sacrifice for atonement and thus our satisfaction is in his work for us; and by having fellowship (1 John 1:3) with him, by which we discover his love, his safety and security for He is the God of peace (Heb 13:20).
