Zephaniah 3:17-20 NKJV

The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing." "I will gather those who sorrow over the appointed assembly, Who are among you, To whom its reproach is a burden.

Behold, at that time I will deal with all who afflict you; I will save the lame, And gather those who were driven out; I will appoint them for praise and fame In every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will bring you back, Even at the time I gather you; For I will give you fame and praise Among all the peoples of the earth, When I return your captives before your eyes," Says the LORD.

Today Israel occupies the land promised Abraham in unbelief. She has a strong belief in her own abilities, without acknowledging God. Zephaniah speaks of a time when a remnant of Israel acknowledges Jehovah - YHWH. In all the suffering due to the wickedness of the people, Jerusalem holds the chief place in the mind of Jehovah. He has saved them from the evil desires of the gentile nations and we see the remnant rejoice; Jehovah's judgement has dealt with the unbelieving masses.

Zephaniah is the last of the prophets before the captivity, and has in his sights the coming clamity due to total apostacy of the house of Judah. The prophecy also has a over-the-horizon view of the coming age, proclaiming judgement over the whole world (chapter 2 - 3:8), and like Israel, a remnant will respond and call upon the name of Jehovah (Zephaniah 3:9-13).
