For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Missed by many, Jesus came into the world to save sinners, not to condemn them. There will be a time, soon, when He will come as judge and execute wrath against those that hate God. The verse provides hope in that sinners are saved through "him", that is Jesus Christ. Humans cannot provide for their own salvation - they are simply too sinful. The plan Jesus commences to outline here is his atoning death on the cross. Just before announcing this statement to Nicodemus (whom Jesus was speaking), he states that the Son of Man must be lifted up signifying the type of death - crucifixion on the cross. This is followed by a remarkable passage that is repeated, true since the time of Adam and Eve: "whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life". Indeed, the entire Bible follows this line of thought - God was going to provide a means to atone sinners, available to all who believe. Do you believe?
