For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The gospel is simply this: if you want salvation from eternal damnation [judgement] in the lake of fire called hell, you need to believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died, was buried and rose again (on the third day). The verse here shows that our punishment, which is hell, can be substituted by the punishment Jesus took on the cross - his blood for yours; his death for yours. Sure, you might die a physical death, but a believer is resurrected to heaven; a non-believer resurrected - yes the sinners also are resurrected to face the judgement of God, with the inevitable consequence of hell.
