James 1:19-20

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

True faith has the attitude of hearing: that is listening with full intent - being mindful of what is being said. In particular being mindful to that which God speaks in His Word. A Christian must be slow to speak, because speech gives expression to what we are. Without care, the old-man, flesh - the old nature will come to the front and say godless things. One must be slow to wrath, which is the flesh. Wrathful anger cannot demonstrate practical righteousness which is pleasing to God.
