All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own, but each one the other's well-being.
A Christian is under the Law of Christ (Galatians 2:6), not the Jewish Law of Moses; this provides a lot of freedom. But Paul here, says watch what you do and say - it may be affecting some-one else. Our objective in loving one another is to seek the well-being of others. When thinking about doing anything, this is our control point - we must ask: will what I do help or aid another, or will it hinder that person?" Further on Paul writes: Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God, just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. 1 Corinthians 10:31-33.
