Matthew 7:24-25

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

It is the word of God that one must obey - we are in the age of an immense amount of false teaching - it bombards us every minute of every day. It is believable and fills every void of our life; it is found everywhere and comes to us in every-which way. Reality has been replaced with the thoughts of self; "what I think; it is!" This is fed of the self-seeking thoughts of others; there is no need for any truth or reality-check (asking; is this infact true); look at me it says; be like me! It ends in disaster.

This is far from building one's life on a solid foundation - one which will be resilient and structurally sound, to carry on with the metaphor. If your life is not on solid rock it cannot stand and will crumple; sometimes catastrophically. To withstand the stresses and anxieties of life, one must live according to the teaching of Jesus Christ (the antithesis of current doctine being to "Love God and to love your neighbour as your self") and to this end this verse says one must build upon the reality of truth - and this is Jesus ("I am the way, the truth and the life" John 14:6). It is like a wise man who builds his house on a foundation of rock; not one that can move and change and be washed away in an instance. It is only in this reality will one's heart be resilient to the torrent of stress one faces in this life.
