For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Whoever believes in the Son [Jesus Christ] has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Marriage: the becoming of one

Ephesians 5:31-33

"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

We have here a reference to Adam and Eve as the types of Christ and the Church. While Adam slept God built (formed) the woman out of his side and then presented her to him. "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh," were Adam’s words. She was taken out of his body, shared the same life and was also Adam’s wife. In natural marriage, husband and wife combine the elements of one perfect human being: the one being incomplete without the other.
Adam is also the figure of Him that was to come (Romans 5:14). Eve is the type of the Church. We possess His life and are of Himself, bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh. And the Church’s destiny is to have dominion with Him over the new creation.
