Psalms 49:4-9, 15

I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.
Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me, those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?
Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice, that he should live on forever and never see the pit.
...
But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah.

"O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labour is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:55-58.

No man can pay the price for the sins of another with the Old Testament proving absolutely no human can pay the price for his or her own sin. The Psalmist realises, hundreds of years before Jesus Christ, that God will pay the ransom for his soul. The Apostle Paul finished his letter to the Corinthian Church with the doxology here, giving thanks to God who gives a believer victory over death, because it was the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God who on the cross paid the necessary price in full, giving all believers the hope of eternal life.
