Psalm 119:37

Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life [revive] in Your ways [O LORD]

In this country our law-makers are attempting to guard children from the evil of the on-line environment; what children see is very important. The scientific data are real: exposure to violent media, including war, and media with sexually explicit content, that is, pornography, harms children. But what about you and me? The Bible calls for us to guard our eyes because the eyes are a window by which our minds can be tempted. In Psalm 119, the Psalmist requests God to turn his eyes from worthless things. He juxtaposes this with a request for a renewed life in the way of Jehovah. Filling our eyes with the wickedness of the world will hinder our ability to bear fruit for Our Father.

We may not always control what image is placed in front of our eyes, but we can control how our hearts handle the image: do we look again, do we look long and hard, do we stare and ponder image? Guarding the eyes is a primary biblical method of protection.

The evangelist Emeal Zwayne (president of Living Waters founded by Ray Comfort) put it this way - Not One Peek Even: NOPE. This week watch carefully what window you open your mind to and practice Not One Peek Even when improper images appear; and don't even think about searching for such pages. Practice what this Psalmist says:

I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; (Psalms 101:3a)

The wisdom literature of the Bible has plenty to say – here are a few.

Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. (Proverbs 4:25)

"I have made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a young woman? (Job 31:1)

Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, nor let her allure you with her eyelids. (Proverbs 6:25)

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. (James 1:14-15)
