Matthew 16:13-16

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"

So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

No doubt about it: Peter answers that Jesus was a son, and further, the son of Jehovah - the living God. This episode occurs after nation Israel, by her rulers, rejected their Messiah, Jesus Christ. The Pharisees and Sadducees had called for a sign, although many signs had been given; Peter responds from the heart. This is the place we need to be - our faith in Christ's grace for us offers untold peace. Evidence of the fast approaching day of judgement is upon the blind and disbelieving world, being manipulated by the Evil one; but our hope is steadfast in Jesus Christ, who died, was buried and rose again on the third day. But a believer cannot stop there - the audience of the Book of Hebrews were dull of hearing, had stopped at faith and were not being useful for the Lord's work. What are you doing with your life? Are you fulfilling the workmanship God has made for you (Ephesians 2:10) or are you stuck on just believing.

It's time to grow to maturity. Peter had a long way to go from chapter 16 of Matthew, but he got there, evidenced in his two letters to Christians the Holy Spirit placed in the sacred canon.
