"Beware of the scribes [clergy], who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues [churches], and the best places at feasts, who devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation."
Churches that depart from the word of God, creating dogma and so called church teachings, which are merely human inventions, fall into the same trap as the scribes and Pharisees of Jesus' day. They were found wanting in his day, and found wanting by Luther in 1517 and found wanting by the Sex Abuse royal commission. Clergy have no part in the church; it is a device to create an elite group of (mainly) men who abuse those under their command (Matthew 23). A pastor who is truly a paster (their attributes are given in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1) must be gracious, meek and self-effacing; unless they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, live the Bible and teach the Bible only reject them.
