Psalm 27:11-14

Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a smooth path because of my enemies. Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

The psalmist does not pray to be indulged with his own way, but to be informed as to the path in which the righteous Lord would have him or her walk. This prayer outlines an humble sense of personal ignorance, [self awareness, or emotional intelligence] great teachableness of spirit, and cheerful obedience of heart. "Lead me in a plain path." No seeking glory or riches or power is seen here. And as to our enemies, as Spurgeon puts it: "God be thanked that our foes cannot have their way with us".
